The 2013 scarecrow festival in St. Charles runs Friday, Saturday, Sunday October 11, 12, and 13 in 2013. This is the 28th year St. Charles has put on the scarcrow festival. The main draw are the scarecrow displays you will find in Lincoln park and along third street between Cedar and State streets. The scarecrow’s can be designed by just about anyone but you have a solid deadline to enter the contest. There are 6 different categories in which the scarecrow’s are judged. Besides the scarecrow’s there will be live entertainment on 4 different stages throughout the weekend as well as a carnival. You will find various food vendors and activities around St. Charles on both sides of the river. There are free festival trolleys to get you from the parking areas they prefer us to park to the festival. On the west side of the river you will find parking at the Thompson and Haines schools, on the east side parking is at the Charlestown Mall. There will be some on street parking and the city’s lots will be open but you should not expect to find parking around the downtown area easy.
We make it out to Scarecrow Festival every year. My son’s class always enters a scarecrow into the contest. We usually invest several hours to see a good bulk of the festival site. Last year the scarecrow’s were spread out around the east and west side of the river and it was a pain to see them all. This year they placed them in the same general area which is far better. If the weather holds out this festival is a great time.
